Our story began in late 2008, with a simple but ambitious vision: to build a company we would want to own forever. We started the journey with a single warehouse and have grown into the cold chain industry’s largest player – and we’re just getting started.

How our vision was born
Lineage started with the entrepreneurial vision of Adam Forste and Kevin Marchetti, friends who met early in their careers at Morgan Stanley. Together, channeling a shared ethos of wanting to build a company they could grow and compound over a long duration, Adam and Kevin sought out an opportunity in a vital but overlooked industry: cold storage.
They quickly learned the industry was the critical infrastructure behind the global food supply chain, and it was both resilient and growing. But it was under appreciated, and there was a clear opportunity to deploy capital to create a world-leading company. They also saw how innovation, automation and applied data science could make the warehouse, a warehousing network and the entire supply chain ecosystem more efficient.
Since the beginning they have focused all their energy on building an irreplaceable cold storage network powered by a differentiated technology platform. This approach is central to our purpose of transforming the global food supply chain to eliminate waste and help feed the world.
Culture at the core
Since Lineage’s inception, we have believed that culture matters and should be the bedrock of the company’s foundation. And our purpose fuels everything we do. At the simplest level, it’s about working with people you enjoy being around and having fun while doing it.
We have been privileged to have so many incredible people join Lineage from diverse backgrounds and through acquired companies. In many ways, we wanted Lineage to feel like a family. In fact, many of the companies we acquired were family-owned. The Lineage name reflects the heritage and pedigree of these companies, while the Lineage shield logo represents our strength and the conviction that the whole is greater than the sum of our parts. Many companies have joined Lineage because the owners and families behind them share our view that culture matters – we make it our responsibility to stay true to that post acquisition.

Seafreeze Cold Storage was formed in 1978 as a joint venture between Seafreeze (a cold storage warehouse company) and Sea Pro (a seafood processing company) at a location in the south end of the Port of Seattle. The facility was expanded five times over the next twenty years—changing ownership a few times along the way. By 2003, Seafreeze had discontinued its own food processing operations to focus on warehousing support for multiple on-site seafood and food processing companies. CityIce’s cold storage roots go back as far as 1904. Over the years the business changed and moved several times before settling on the Port of Seattle’s Terminal 91. The terminal was the perfect location to serve its customers in the seafood industry—allowing large commercial trawlers to offload their catch directly into CityIce’s dockside facilities. In 2009, CityIce became a key piece of Lineage’s network in the Pacific Northwest when it was sold to Bay Grove Capital by its former owner Jack Rosling.
Columbia Colstor was founded by the McGraw family in 1983 with a single facility in Quincy, Washington supporting Eastern Washington’s robust agricultural region. Through new construction and facility expansions, Colstor’s facility network grew in response to demand—taking advantage of both truck and rail transportation networks to allow their customers to move products to markets around the country. Colstor was acquired by Lineage in 2015.
In 1976, Stan Averch formed Oneida Cold Storage and Warehouse as a cross-dock facility based in Salt Lake City to service his separate transportation business. Stan later sold both the Salt Lake City facility and his transportation business and in 2000 purchased a new cold storage warehouse in Henderson, Colorado—focused on serving the growing Denver market. By the time Lineage acquired Oneida in 2014, Oneida’s Henderson facility had expanded and evolved into one of the largest, state of the art, USDA-inspected cold storage facilities in the Denver metropolitan area.
Bob Murphy and his sister, Marilyn Gourley, founded Murphy Overseas in 1985 as a customs broker in the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. The company would expand operations to the Ports of Tacoma and Hueneme—supporting many of the cold storage port facilities that have since become a part of the Lineage facility network. Murphy Overseas was acquired by Lineage in 2014 and today its freight forwarding and customs brokerage operations are critical services provided to our customers in ports across the United States.
Loop Cold Storage began operations in San Antonio in 1963 to support founder Bill Conway’s peanut seed business. Since the 1980’s, Loop has served as a leading provider of refrigerated warehousing, transportation and repackaging services in the US-Mexican fruit and vegetable trade. Owned by David H. Murdock and Bill and Paul Hendricksen, CCCS operated facilities in California, the Midwest and East Coast—primarily serving food retailers and distributors—and specialized in dedicated facility management and providing complete logistics solutions for Fortune 500 companies. Lineage acquired CCCS in 2012—with Bill and Paul Hendricksen respectively serving as Lineage’s CEO and President/COO from 2012-2015.
Richmond Cold Storage was founded in 1907 and began operating a facility encompassing 1 million cubic feet in Richmond, VA. The company was purchased in 1949 by Frank Laughon Sr. with his son Frank “Pepper” Laughon, Jr. taking over management in the mid-1960s. Between 1976 and 2008, the company grew to include more than 57 million cubic feet of warehouse space in Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. Bay Grove Capital purchased RCS in 2011—making the company’s facilities the keystone of Lineage’s mid-Atlantic and Southeast operations.
Terminal Freezers was founded in 1984 by Lowell Dayton and Gale Bernik, with Lowell’s brother David joining them soon after. Terminal initially built and operated a facility in Salem, OR, but over the years grew to include additional locations in California, Oregon and Texas. Yearsley Group was founded in 1952, selling fruits and vegetables in Rochdale, Lancashire. It wasn’t until 1974 that Yearsley opened their first cold storage location with a total of 400 pallet positions. Over the next forty years, Yearsley grew to be the largest cold chain logistics provider in the United Kingdom and the fourteenth largest globally. By the time Yearsley was acquired by Lineage in 2018, the company had twelve facilities across the United Kingdom, a transportation fleet of more than 300 vehicles and a robust frozen food business.
Consolidated Distribution Corporation (CDC) was founded in 1990. Over the next thirty years, CDC would become the largest independent multi-concept foodservice supply chain solutions provider and redistribution company in the United States. Through its remarkable growth, CDC’s robust re-distribution operation evolved to serve the retail and manufacturing industries, as well as the foodservice franchisors and purchasing cooperatives of the nation’s most recognizable restaurant brands. CDC officially joined the Lineage family in August 2016.
Headquartered in the Netherlands—and with facilities in the UK, Netherlands and Belgium—Partner Logistics led the European market in state-of-the-art highly automated warehousing and fully integrated supply chain solutions, primarily for frozen foods. Partner Logistics officially joined Lineage in June 2017—marking Lineage’s first international acquisition and significant growth in our automation capabilities and strategy.
Service Cold Storage (SCS) was founded by Milton Austin and a group of investors in 2013. In response to a regional need for a centrally located logistics operation, the SCS team broke ground on a brand-new facility in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. In total, the Stevens Point facility offered over 11 million cubic feet of temperature-controlled storage space. SCS joined the Lineage family in June 2018, becoming our flagship location in Wisconsin.
Founded in 1950, U.S. Growers was a leading temperature-controlled warehousing and logistics company based in Southern California. The company strived to be an industry leader and to provide customers with the best possible service across its eight warehouses centered in the Los Angeles area. U.S. Growers was acquired by Lineage in November 2017.
Iowa Cold Storage (ICS) was founded in 2003 by Tom Poe and Denny Franzen with the vision of creating a state-of-the-art cold storage facility on the crossroads of America—where I-80 and I-35 connect in central Iowa. Over the next fifteen years, the facility was expanded three times in response to strong customer demand for additional storage capacity. In recognition of the exceptional team and facility the ICS team built, Lineage proudly welcomed them into the family in June 2019.
Preferred Freezer Services (Preferred) was founded in 1989 by John Galiher and grew to become the third largest public refrigerated warehousing company in North America with 38 locations and more than 2,000 employees. Preferred was an early leader in automation within the industry—developing cutting-edge automation capacity in the US, Vietnam and China. Lineage was proud to welcome the Preferred team to the Lineage family in May 2019.
Allied Frozen Storage was founded in Upsate New York State in the early 1980’s by two sets of brothers - Charles Pecorella, Matteo Pecorella, John Petronio and Carl Petronio – who were originally in the building business under the same name. They got their start in the cold storage industry when they were hired by a major local client to build a cold storage facility.
The Maines legacy began in 1919 when Floyd L. Maines Sr. founded Maines Candy Company and sold nickel candy to local grocers. With the synergy created between the Maines family’s entrepreneurial spirit, world-class facilities, and passionate associates, the company became an industry-leading, independent foodservice distributor that provided food & produce, restaurant supplies, equipment & chemicals and a variety of solutions focusing on National as well as Private brands to both independent and chain foodservice operations across the country.
Emergent Cold was founded in 2017 by Neal Rider following the acquisition of Swire Cold Storage with a mission of capitalizing on emerging trends within the cold-chain. Swire Cold Storage began in 2003 after an amalgamation of several cold chain logistics companies in the Asia-Pacific region: Frigmobile, Woodmasons, South Australia Cold Stores and Cleland Cold Stores.
Lundsøe has more than 17,000 pallet locations distributed over 5 cold stores in Svenstrup, Nørresundby, Aarhus, Greenland Harbour and Hjallerup. The cold store is split in sections, which ensures optimal flexibility to fulfill the needs of customers in terms of storage types and temperature ranges. Lundsøe offers a broad variety of packing activities for the retail sector, made according to customer needs. Their packing facility lies in Nørresundby where they offer bag packaging, glazing, re-lidding and much more.
Kenyon Zero Storage, Inc. was founded over 50 years ago in Grandview Washington. What started off as a 56,000 square foot warehouse, has since expanded to over 600,000 square feet. With locations in Grandview, Prosser and Pasco, customers have close access to metropolitan areas in the Pacific Northwest.
Founded in 2006, Mandai Link Logistics emerged as one of the first fully automated cold storage facilities, paving the way for Singapore's cold storage and distribution services. Mandai offers a full suite of temperature-controlled solutions to their customers including procurement, refrigerated transportation through their fleet of trucks, and 28,000+ pallets of cold storage warehousing.
Bartelson Transport was a family owned and operated company founded in 1980 that supported the transportation of goods for over 40 years with two facilities in Washington. As a transportation provider, Bartelson quickly and safely moved goods across the west coast. In addition to sound transportation services, Bartelson also offers bulk liquid Flexi Tank installation, drayage services, transloading and warehouse capabilities, and container storage and monitoring. Bartelson Transport was acquired by Lineage in 2022.

The Nossack Family has been in the business of transporting food since 1894. In 1994 Nossack Transport Ltd established itself with nearly a century of tribal knowledge, experience, and dedication. From their Alberta facility and fleet, Nossack offers temperature-controlled LTL shipping, cross-docking, lift-gate service, and storage.
